Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jaime Santoyo-Lagunas, 23, a citizen of Mexico found living in Elroy, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to four months in prison for illegally reentering the United States. Santoyo-Lagunas pleaded guilty to this charge on April 10, 2012.

Santoyo-Lagunas was previously removed from the United States on August 22, 2009 following a Sauk County, Wis. conviction for 4th degree sexual assault. Santoyo-Lagunas returned to the United States without permission and on August 26, 2010, was convicted in Juneau County, Wis., of 2nd degree sexual assault of a child. Judge Crabb directed that the four-month sentence run consecutively to the three-year sentence imposed in Juneau County.

The charge against Santoyo-Lagunas was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah Fillbach Lenzendorf.
